ARELLANO UNIVERSITY NURSING CUM LAUDE TOP 4 IN LICENSURE EXAM

Posted February 08, 2010

For three consecutive exams now, the AU College of Nursing has come out with graduates in the Top 10 of the licensure examination. Cyrel Alexandra I. Diolazo of Calasiao, Pangasinan obtained the number 4 slot of the November, 2009 nursing licensure exam. Roberto Asuncion and Paul Gumabao were in the top 5 and top 9, respectively in the November 2008 exam while Michele Barberan was No. 3 in the June 2009 exam.

The 22-year old College of Nursing (Main) cum laude prevailed over   94,462 examinees, of which 37,527 passed the exam.  The AU College of Nursing performance in this exam is 48% while the national passing average is 39.73%.

Diolazo will be reimbursed 100% of her tuition fee under the "return tuition fee" policy of Arellano University, which indicates that those who make it to the top 5 will be reimbursed 100% of tuition fee paid; those in top 6-10 get 75% reimbursement and those in the 11-25 slots will receive reimbursements on a graduated scale. Twenty two other AU College of Nursing graduates will benefit from this policy for having been categorized in the Top 25 category.  (See related story)

Citing herself as a "very ordinary" student, Diolazo wanted to be an architect.  She said she knew she was going to pass the board exam but she herself was surprised when she found out she was in the Top 4.   Reading fiction was her way relaxing and she finished the seven volumes of Harry Potter during the review period; she   played classical music while reading her review materials and books, and used the Know it All game in the Facebook to hone her skill in developing speed in answering questions. Being a very prayerful person, she attributes her success to her prayers.

Hoping to specialize in cardiology nursing, Diolazo will finish her master's degree while working, and later, teach at Arellano University to share her knowledge, experiences and skills before deciding if she will work abroad.
