NURSING BOARD EXAM TOPNOTCHERS GET INCENTIVE AWARDS

Posted March 25, 2009

Top 10 board passsers Roberto Asuncion (No. 5) and Paul Gumabao (No. 9) received from President and CEO Francisco Paulino V. Cayco   of Arellano University incentive awards during the Testimonial Dinner / Breakfast for Nursing Licensure Examination passers in AU Pasay on March 14 and AU Main on March 18. A Testimonial Dinner was also held at AU Pasig on March 20, 2009.

The awards are checks representing the amount of tuition fee paid by the students concerned.  Under the "return-tuition fee" policy of Arellano University for board topnotchers, those who are in Top 1-5 gets a 100% reimbursement of tuition fee paid, while those in Top 6-10, 75%. .

A surprise announcement was made by President Cayco when he informed the gatherings that those who made it to the Top 11-25 will also receive incentive awards on a pro-rata basis. There are 30 board passers belonging to this category.

In his inspirational message President Cayco thanked the faculty and the 797 board passers for giving honor to the university.  He explained that Arellano University's responsibility to the students does not end with their passing of the board. The university has undertaken steps to protect the students until they are able to get a job, especially abroad.

He made mention of the university partnership with  a US- based company which would facilitate job placement  of AU graduates in any place of their choice in the United States without them paying any placement fees.  A two-year working experience in a hospital is the only requirement for admission to the program.

There are also options offered to students who did not pass the board.   The university has made a proposal to its accredited review center that a retaker be given a 50% discount on the review fee.

Another option for a non-board passer who wishes to work in the United Kingdom is through participation in a program of an institution that has a tie-up with Arellano University. Under the agreement, an AU student who failed in the nursing board could enroll in its 2-year health care practitioner course.  The student gets a student visa but he will be allowed to work during the two year period. The student is also exempted from passing the IELTS.

In his testimonial, Robert M. Asuncion, a consistent honor student from grade school, attributed his success in the board exam to the support he received from his family, his benefactor who sent him to college, and Arellano University, which gave him financial and moral support while he was enrolled in review classes.   For his part Paul Gumabao said that preparation for the examination started in his first year; reading his nursing books from cover to cover was his secret weapon.   Leilani Santos (Top 20) said that when one sets a goal, one should do it with passion. Being a single mother, she had financial and emotional problems; but she kept her focus in her studies. She suffered three months of loneliness in Baguio City, for her self-imposed isolation so she can concentrate on her review.
