AU Officials, INP students visit Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia

On April 3-7, 2011 Arellano  University  officials and  International Nursing Program (INP) faculty   accompanied five second year students  and parents in a visit  at the Edith Cowan University (ECU)  in Perth, Western Australia. The trip was aimed, among other things, at helping the students   in making the decision where to study in their senior year.

   The group included Atty. Roland Niedo, INP OIC Dr. Emerita Mendoza, and faculty member Ruben Ramos, students Marc Leandro Andanar,  (accompanied by his parents Mr. Rumar Tan Andanar  and Mrs. Agnes Canizares Andanar), Christopher  Gabriel, Elizabeth Ong, Jan Jarnel  Geyenne Tiu, Ed Mauverick Rollon.  The students and two parents toured ECU and met with the students from the university, including two AU INP students now studying there, namely Belinda Grace Dait and Ana Beatriz Hipolito.

   Among  the ECU officials and faculty who welcomed and oriented the group were Associate Professor Christopher Churchouse, International Nursing Coordinator; Professor Di Twigg, Head of School of Nursing, Midwifery and Postgraduate Medicine; Associate Professor Jim Cross, Associate Dean of International Nursing Program; Mr. Simon Davies Burrows, Head of International Admissions Team;  Ms. Mel Lauva , Ms. Gina Mata, Dr. Angus Stewart, Professor Tony  Watson  and International Coordinators of the institution.

   They were shown the School of Nursing facilities and the university campus; they also observed the simulation tutorials with 3rd year students and attended a Pharmacology lecture. They were also given a short city tour.

   ECU is Western Australia's second largest university with approximately 20,000 students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, approximately 4000 of whom are international students originating from over 90 countries outside Australia.

   The university offers more than 400 courses across two metropolitan campuses, in Mount Lawley and Joondalup, and a regional campus in the South West, Bunbury, with some courses also offered for study off-campus (Distance Education). Additionally, the university has partnerships with several education institutions to conduct courses and programs offshore. ECU offers the largest undergraduate nursing program in Western Australia.

   Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia and the fourth most populous city in Australia. The Perth metropolitan area has an estimated population of 1,696,000. It became known worldwide as the "City of Lights" and is tied for eighth place in 2010 list of the World's Most Livable Cities.
